Just Transition Fund JTF

The Just Transition Mechanism is a tool to ensure that the transition to a climate-neutral economy is fair. It provides targeted support to mobilise around EUR 55 billion over the period 2021-2027 to mitigate the socio-economic impacts of the transition in the most affected regions.

Territorial Just Transition Plans will set out the territories in which the Just Transition Fund will be deployed. The territories eligible for support will be determined through a dialogue with the Commission. These plans will set out the challenges in each territory and the development needs and objectives to be addressed by 2030. They will also set out the types of measures to be envisaged and the appropriate governance mechanisms.

Objectives:

Who benefits from it?

Citizens most affected by the transition

Companies and industries in or with CO2-intensive fields of activity

Member states and regions with a high dependence on fossil fuels and CO2-intensive companies and sectors
Platform for a fair transition
The Just Transition Platform supports EU countries and regions in their just transition. It acts as a one-stop shop and helpdesk and offers comprehensive technical assistance and advice. The platform provides authorities and beneficiaries with all the information they need about the funds, such as financing opportunities, regulatory innovations or sector-specific initiatives. In addition, the platform actively promotes the exchange of best practices between all stakeholders, including through regular face-to-face and virtual meetings.
